    • We strive to offer timely care, and availability can change quickly.
    • Our Intake Coordinators can help you explore other options
  • What therapeutic approaches do you utilize?

We firmly believe that there is a difference between feeling better and being better. That’s why our therapists use techniques like:

    •  Cognitive Behavior Therapy
    •  Exposure Therapy
    •  Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
    •  Behavior Therapy
    •  Mindfulness and more.
    • Counseling strategies and teachable tools with a proven track record of working.
  • How long are sessions?

All sessions are 45 minutes long.

  • What are my options if AP is out-of-network for my insurance plan?

    • At Abridged Psychology, we strive to make therapy accessible to everyone, which is why we are in-network with several insurance providers.
    • If we are not in-network with your specific insurance plan, you still have options.
    • You can choose to pay privately for therapy sessions, or, if your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, you may be reimbursed for a portion of the cost. Typically, once your deductible is met, insurance reimbursement can range from 40-80% of the session fee.
  • What is a Limited Permit Therapist?

    • A Limited Permit Therapist (previously referred to as Limited License) is similar to a doctor in residency. They have completed their degree and gained 1-3 years of clinical experience, and the state requires them to practice a set number of hours under supervision before they can become fully licensed.
    • At Abridged Psychology, our limited permit therapists meet with their supervisor weekly and attend additional supervisory hours to refine treatment plans for each client. This means clients benefit from the expertise of not just one therapist, but two, ensuring a higher level of care and attention throughout the therapy process.
  • What happens if the therapist assigned is not an ideal match for my needs?

    • At Abridged Psychology, your care is our top priority.
    • If you feel that the therapist assigned isn’t the best match for your needs, our Intake Coordinators will work with you to gather your feedback and help find a therapist who better aligns with your goals and preferences.
    • We are committed to ensuring you receive the support that works best for you.
  • Can parents be involved in the therapy process? If so, what does that look like?

Absolutely! At Abridged Psychology, we follow a "Parents As Partners" model, which recognizes that real progress happens when parents are actively involved in their child's therapy. Since we only see your child for 45 minutes each week, we work closely with parents to ensure the skills learned in sessions are reinforced at home and in daily life.

Typically, the therapist will check in with parents at the beginning of each session to discuss how the week went, review any practice assignments, and address any important issues that may have come up. At the end of the session, the therapist will provide a brief update and offer guidance on how parents can help their child apply and practice the new skills in everyday situations. This collaborative approach helps create lasting change and supports the child's growth both in and outside of therapy.

  • Why do I need to have a payment method (e.g. credit card, debit card, health savings card) on file prior to the initial intake appointment?

We require a payment method on file to confirm your appointment. If you need to cancel, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. If cancellations are made with less than 24 hours' notice, a $75 fee will be charged, as it’s too short of notice to fill the spot with another client.

Rest assured, your card information is securely encrypted and stored. Our Billing Department only has access to the last few digits for security purposes.

  • Do you offer medication management?

No, we do not offer medication management at this time.

  • Why don't you offer psychotherapy services for children younger than age 5?

At Abridged Psychology, we are committed to providing the best care for your child. Preschool therapy is a specialized field that requires specific expertise. Currently, we do not have a team member with this particular specialty.

We understand how important it is to have the right support at every stage of development, and we’re always working to expand our services to meet the needs of all families

  • What does an intake appointment look like?

    • The first session, or intake appointment, is an important opportunity for you (or your child) and the therapist to get to know each other. The format of this session will vary depending on the individual needs and circumstances, including age, presenting issues, and history.

    Adult Intakes:

    • For adults, the intake session typically involves discussing personal history, current concerns, coping mechanisms, and goals for therapy. The therapist will ask questions to better understand your unique situation and develop a treatment plan that’s tailored to your needs.

    Child Intakes:

    • For children, the intake process might be slightly different. Often, the first appointment may involve a parent-only session so the parent can provide important background information, such as family history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. Depending on the child’s age and comfort level, the session may also include both the child and the parent in the room or be split between time with the child and time with the parent.
    • Regardless of the structure, our priority is to make sure the child feels comfortable and safe in the therapy environment, as initial impressions are crucial to building trust.

    For All:

    • Whether you’re an adult or a child, the intake appointment helps establish a solid foundation for the therapeutic process, allowing the therapist to understand your needs and begin crafting a plan for progress. We are committed to making sure you feel supported from the very beginning of your journey with us
  • Do sessions need to be weekly?

    • All clients start with weekly sessions. This helps us complete baseline assessments, build rapport between the client and therapist, and collaborate on a treatment plan.
    • Once the treatment plan is in place and progress is being made, the frequency of sessions may be reduced to bi-weekly or even monthly. The goal is to gradually space out sessions as the client achieves their goals and continues to thrive while maintaining the support they need during this process.
  • What is the best way to reach you besides leaving a voicemail?

    • We understand that leaving a voicemail and waiting for a callback isn't always the most convenient option, so we offer faster ways to get in touch. You can email us directly at info@abridgedpsych.com for a prompt response. If you'd prefer to speak with one of our Intake Coordinators, you can easily schedule a time using their Google calendar links. Once you complete the "Book Your Appointment" form on our website, you'll receive an email with the links to their calendars for easy scheduling.
    • Once an established client, you will be able to securely email and text directly with your counselor for a more streamlined experience.
  • Are services provided by limited permit therapists covered by insurance?

    • Insurance reimbursement for services provided by limited permit therapists may vary. Some insurance companies may not reimburse for services from a limited permit therapist, so it’s important to verify with your insurance provider beforehand.
